A November Wedding at The Red Lion Inn in Cohasset, MA | Amanda & Matt
There’s something about a November wedding in New England that just works. The cooler temperatures, cozy atmosphere, and all the excuse you need to lean into candlelight and warm, rustic details.
Amanda and Matt’s November wedding at The Red Lion Inn in Cohasset, Massachusetts was the perfect example.
Located on the South Shore, The Red Lion Inn is a beautiful option for couples who want a wedding venue that feels rustic and distinctly New England without sacrificing elegance. And honestly, it checks a lot of boxes: beautiful grounds, seriously outstanding food, a gorgeous interior, and beaches just minutes away for portraits.
Basically, you get the cozy countryside feel and the ocean. Not a bad combination.
A South Shore Wedding with a Rustic New England Feel
If you're looking for a South Shore wedding venue, The Red Lion Inn is definitely one to put on your list.
The property has that classic New England charm that makes a November wedding feel especially cozy. It has a more rustic feel than some of the traditional coastal wedding venues in the area, but it still feels elegant enough for a formal wedding.
And because it's in Cohasset, you're also just minutes from some beautiful South Shore beaches.
That gives couples a lot of flexibility when it comes to wedding portraits. You can have the cozy, rustic feel of the Red Lion Inn for the bulk of the day and then head to the beach for portraits and first looks.
As a wedding photographer, I am very much here for this combination.
Amanda & Matt's Ketubah Signing
One of the unique parts of Amanda and Matt's wedding day was their Ketubah signing before the ceremony.
I love when couples incorporate traditions and meaningful pieces of their relationship into the wedding day, especially when they happen before the more traditional ceremony begins.
It also gave us a chance to document some of those quieter, more intimate moments before the rest of the wedding day really got underway.
And that's one of my favorite things about wedding photography in general. Yes, I want the big stuff—the ceremony, the dancing, the champagne, all of it—but there are so many meaningful moments happening around those big events that deserve to be photographed, too.
The Candle-Lined Staircase
Okay, let's talk about my favorite part of The Red Lion Inn.
The staircase.
More specifically, the way they line the large staircase with candles.
It is SO elegant.
There's something about a giant staircase filled with candlelight that makes a wedding feel instantly romantic without needing a ton of extra décor. It's warm, dramatic, and especially beautiful during a November wedding when the days are shorter and the evening starts creeping in earlier.
And obviously, it photographs beautifully.
It's one of those venue details that makes me very happy to have a camera in my hands.
An Outstanding Wedding Menu
I also have to mention the food because The Red Lion Inn absolutely delivers in that department.
The food is outstanding, and that's not something I take lightly. Great wedding food can make such a difference to the overall experience of the day—not just for your guests, but for you.
And after spending hours taking photos, I will never complain about being somewhere that actually knows how to feed people.
Why I Love The Red Lion Inn for a November Wedding
November can sometimes get overlooked when couples are planning a New England wedding, but I actually think it can be such a great month for it.
At The Red Lion Inn, you get the cozy, rustic atmosphere of the venue, beautiful grounds, candlelight, and the option to sneak away to the beach for portraits.
It's a really nice combination of rustic, elegant, and coastal New England without feeling like you're trying too hard to make all three things happen.
Amanda and Matt's wedding was a perfect example of how much personality you can bring into a wedding day at this venue—from their Ketubah signing to beach portraits to a candlelit staircase and all the little moments in between.
